The Missa De Beata Virgine is one of the compositions of Josquin composed in 1510 and was very popular in the 16th century. This is odd among his masses due to the movement of  the voices and has five sections. These are

  • Kyrie
  • Gloria
  • Credo
  • Sanctus
  • Credo
  • Agnus Dei

Each movement employee’s different plainsong chant and the original chants is complex, broken up and them passed through voices or al the voices sung differently simultaneously. This is second last of the four masses that Josquin based on the plainsong and all are a glorification of the Virgin Mary

in this mass, thew movement differ in the way from the source of plainchant, the Kyrie consists of all of the voices, paraphrased and imitativey, Gloria treats thechant more like moving from voice to voice. In reference to the tone “both movements end on G, and most of their cadences are on G or D. The Credo, the first movement for five voices, ends with a surprising Phrygian cadence on E, and uses canonic techniques more prominently than in the preceding movements. The overall sound is darker and reminiscent of Johannes Ockeghem”, (Harold, Becker, 1981, pg 124- 125). The mass popular during the 16th century since it was very appealing.
