Before conducting a qualitative research, one needs to identify theories that can influence the study. In this respect, researchers examine their interpretations theories in relation to the study.
In Research Design: Qualitative, Quantitative and Mixed Method Approaches, Creswell defines theory as the end of a qualitative study (Creswell, 2003). This refers to the propositional generalization acquired from the researcher’s summary of interpretations, claims and experiences. This is one primary objective of interpretative qualitative research – to develop a “grounded” theory from collecting and analyzing data (Creswell, 2003). By definition, a grounded theory is a theory “generated from a qualitative study” which is appropriate to the situation under investigation. The holist in description and explaination of the system utilizes such. Creswell identifies this as pattern theory, which develops during qualitative or naturalistic research (Creswell, 2003).
In carrying out the study, the grounded theory serves two essential purposes: (1) to connect a study through description of relationships within various parts and (2) to provide a theoretical model for future related studies (Davis, 2011). The methodology will help inform the topic with respect to researching on the effects and issues that arise in contexts where miscommunications arise in business dealings and such contexts.
