Commonly used JEV vaccines are mouse brain, cell culture derived live attenuated and inactivated. Safe and effective vaccines in use in the last three decades are formalin inactivated[1]. The only World Health Organization (WHO) approved JEV vaccines is the mouse brain inactivated processed by Beijing_1 and Nakayama strains[2]. Other vaccines in use are protein based, recombinant virus and DNA vaccines.
Protein vaccines produce protective immunity through receptor binding of the virus[3]. Currently DNA vaccines are recommended for their ability to develop a wide range of immune responses like antibodes, CD8 cyctotoxic lymphocytes and CD4 helper.
