Therefore, this study also intends to explore the role of leadership on employee decision to stay or leave the organisation. To explore this, the study intends to focus on perceived efforts of leadership in terms of appreciation of performed tasks and compensation and appreciation of the performed work, offering challenging tasks, equal and transparent opportunities for promotion, encouraging relations within the organisation, efforts to offer work life balance, putting in place effective communication system, enhancing job autonomy, encouraging employee participation, offering equal training opportunities, and career development opportunities to the employees. Seen in this way, the study intends to understand employees’ perception about the influence of leadership on future intensions or decisions to stay or leave the organisation.
Although these elements, it can be argued, are not directly linked to the leadership skills of the manager, an understanding of these issues is likely to enable managers to develop strategies to prevent their staff from resigning. In order to investigate the empirical research and commentary on why employees leave organisations, the first section will explore the available literature in this area. The information gleaned from this review
will then be used to inform the research objectives.
