Essay: Unstable Blood Pressure
The second case study is about a Mr. W. K. this is a 95 year old white male who suffered from acute cerebral vascular accident (Adams, 2010). This disorder is most commonly described as a “stroke”. The disease occurs as a result of an interruption of normal blood flow to the brain.
This is usually a result of a blockage in one or more of the main blood vessels that supply the brain. Because of the lack of blood supply, the tissues of the brain become ischemic (Andrews, 2005). This then leads to hypoxia or anoxia. There is the destruction or necrosis of the neurons and the glia. These complications are often accompanied with unstable blood pressure, sensory and motor impairment. Pneumonia is also a complication that arises from this disease.
