The ancient Greek religion was mainly based on myths which were about gods and supreme beings having distinct characteristic to teach humankind the difference between good and bad. However, according to the present understanding of good and bad, the Greek religion is often regarded as beastly and incestuous. The Twelve Olympians, in Greek Myth, is the term use for the group of twelve gods and goddess who won the supremacy over other gods and titans in the war of gods. These gods are at the top of Greek Mythological hierarchy and reside on a mythical place called Olympian.

The Twelve Olympian gods and goddesses are Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hermes, Demeter, and Hestia. Zeus is at the top of the order because he was the one who lead the army against titans.

Zeus is the god of the sky and the ruler of the Olympian gods. He was the son of titans, Cronus and Rhea. He killed his father by cutting the stomach of his father in order to save his siblings who were swallowed by him. He was married to the goddess Hera and was famous for his many illicit relations and illegitimate children.

Hera, Zeus wife as well as his youngest sister, is the supreme goddess. She was the goddess of marriage and family.  Her marriage with Zeus was resulted out of an attempt to cover the shame. Zeus disguised himself as a cuckoo and then returning to his original form raped and impregnated her.

Poseidon is the god of sea and aquatic creatures. He was the bother of Zeus and second to him. He married to Amphitrite who was a granddaughter of the titans. His weapon is a trident which has immense power.

Athena is the virgin goddess of reason and rationality. She was the illegitimate daughter of supreme Olympian Zeus. Zeus impregnated Metis, as a result, of their illicit relationship. When he came to know that Metis is going to give a birth to his child he swallowed her alive. The fetus (Athena) kept on growing in his head. When he ordered to open up his head because of unbearable headache, Athena hopped out.

The son of Zeus and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis, Apollo is the god of sun, light, and music. He is also known as the Archer. He was born, as a result, of an incest between Zeus and Leto.

Artemis is the goddess of virginity, chastity and hunt. She asked Zeus to give her eternal chastity. She had many potential lovers but she remained pure and untarnished.
